The village of Henning was founded in 1879 as a railroad town along the Havana, Rantoul, and Eastern Railroad, and had a population of 241 as of the 2000 census. Henning is a bedroom community to Danville.
Henning is located approximately 110 miles south of Chicago, 35 miles east of Champaign-Urbana (home to the University of Illinois), and 95 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana. Illinois Route 1 provides access to Danville to the south. Henning is part of the Bismarck-Henning School District.
