The town of Covington was originally established as the county seat of Fountain County in 1827 along the banks of the Wabash River. It had a population of 2,645 as of the 2010 census.
Covington is located approximately 120 miles south of Chicago, 30 miles south of Lafayette (home to Purdue University), and 70 miles west of Indianapolis, Indiana. Interstate 74 runs past the south end of the town.
